Olon Music and Clipart present for first time in Greece: Mudhoney (+ Engine V & The Dive) live! Sunday of 21 May, Gagarin 205. Hour: 21.00, Ticket: 27 euros at Tickethouse, Metropolis, Clipart, Jinx ![]() Mudhoney are a rock group from the old strange Seattle. For 18 years they have played in all over the world, proving that it is one from the most dynamic groups that survived from the golden grunge season. They sprang up from the ashes of Green River. The Green River took their name from serial killer that acted in their region with the name Green River Killer but also from the album of Creedence Clearwater Revival. They were one of the first grunge groups. The Green River had small impact in the outside world, but their influence in local groups of Seattle will conquer all over the world via modern (Soundgarden, The Melvins), later groups (Nirvana, Alice in Chains) but also groups where created after their dissolution (Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Mother Lobe Bone). They were created in 1983 and were dissolved in 1988 after the`Rehab Doll/Dry as a Bone'. The members were the Mark Arm (voice) and Steve Turner (guitar) that created Mudhoney, Jeff Ament (bass) and Stone Gossard (guitar) - Pearl Jam and Mother Lobe Bone, Bruce Fairweather (guitar) also in Mother Lobe Bone and Lobe Battery, and Alex Vincent (drums). Steve Turner wanted to make a group and he made rehearsals alone before they begin to play all-together. He began to work with Mark Arm and the drummer of the Bundle of Hiss, Dan Peters in various pieces. Searching for bass player, they found Matt Lukin that recently had left Melvins. They were named Mudhoney from a film of Russ Meyer that no one actually had seen. In 1988 the 1st single titled `Touch me I'm Sick' in the Sub Pop and an ep `Superfuzz Bigmuff'. The album that determined the grunge of Seattle. Mudhoney were the flag of Sub Pop before the Nirvana album 'Nevermind'. Sonic Youth that were big fans of them, invited them in tour in England (1989). After this 'Superfuzz Bigmuff' entered tally in British indie charts and enjoyed exceptional criticisms in all Europe. Following their success, in 1989 they made their first homonym full length album in Sub Pop. The success of Mudhoney led to the creation of new achieved groups from Seattle, as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Tad. To the beginnings of 90's Sub Pop did not go well and many groups chased multinational companies. Mudhoney remained in the company and made their second album titled 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge' 1991. Nevertheless after that they signed also in multinational Reprise. As long as grunge became more mainstream, Mudhoney escaped from their initial sound. Many groups that were friends (Nirvana and Pearl Jam) had enormous success. Their first album in Reprise was 'Piece of Cake',with more garage rock feeling. In 1995 when grunge began to fall from mainstream, Mudhoney decided to go behind, to their roots. With the 'My Brother the Cow' album they accomplished to combine punk rock with more heavy things. It is considered as one of the beloved albums of their fans. Two years later they released 'Tomorrow Hit Today'. Something like garage/rock with blues/rock feeling. After some years they leave from Reprise, while also abandon the bass player Matt Lukin because it was tired to tour. The group released a collection 'March the Fuzz'. They found new bass player in the name of Guy Maddison that had played with Mark Arm in the project Bloodloss. After Mark Arm and Steve Turner completed their circle with the achieved project Monkeywrench, Mudhoney released the 'Since We've Become Translucent' 2002. In the spring of 2006 they'll release their new album in Sub Pop titled 'Under a Billion Suns', faithful in the deliveries of group, heavy, loud and psychedelic!
